How it works

I would never expect anyone to assume that I would be the right fit for their family, and I always encourage a coffee date to talk through the process and get to know you and your partner. If you feel comfortable with me as your birth photographer, we can discuss package options. I’m also willing to answer any questions over the phone.

I wear medical scrubs at the birth, so I easily blend into the background. My photographic process is discreet, as my role is to capture the essence of you and your partner’s emotions. It surprises me that fathers or partners usually are against birth photography, but thank me afterwards for being there during the delivery. They are thankful for the support and opportunity to play a focused and supporting role towards their birthing partner.

Getting to know me

Once we’ve contacted each other, you’ll receive an email covering further details on the packages and providing more information about myself and the process. It allows you to book a free consultation and discuss the next steps with your partner before we address your concerns. If you don’t wish to meet with me from the start, but would like to secure your booking date, we can proceed and arrange an invoice to be drawn up and deposit to be paid to secure your booking.

A Maternity session

Once you’ve decided to capture your birth, I’ll send you a contract, a ‘what to expect’ document, and a permission document which gets signed off by your doctor and head of labour or theatre. I’ll guide you through this process, and your doctor will also assist in completing all forms correctly. We’ll also book your maternity session if it was part of your package. I’ll send you suggestions on what to bring to your maternity session, direct you on clothing options and send you a list of locations to choose from, but I’m very flexible and accommodating. I usually book maternity sessions from 32 weeks, but I keep in contact with my clients during their pregnancy. You’ll receive 3-5 edited images to share and enjoy while you await your little one’s arrival.

The birth

Throughout your pregnancy, we’ll keep in touch with each other, and you must inform me of any changes to your delivery plan. I’ll be available two weeks before your expected due date and 24/7 until you deliver your baby. I stay roughly two hours after delivery to capture the first bonding moments as parents, and we can take a few family photos if everyone feels up to it. I love candid moments as it works so well for someone who is camera shy. We can also discuss any images you want to be taken in your ward after the birth. You’ll receive 3-5 images from your birth session for you to share with friends and family immediately after your baby’s arrival.

A Meet-the-Family session

If we’ve booked a Meet the Family session, we’ll schedule it once you have fully recovered. I also capture siblings’ expressions and love towards their brother or sister. I love these sessions as they show how proud mom and dad are of their growing family.

A Newborn session

Once mom is home and feeling better, we can schedule your Welcome Home or Newborn session. This can happen 10 days after the birth or a few weeks later if you think you need more time to settle in. I will send you 3-5 images after your session while you await your final images. This process takes six weeks to finalise on average.
