Emergency c-section after 48 hour labour | Elissa

You may remember the most magical west coast beach maternity session that I shared not too long ago. Elrisa and Selvin have now been gracious enough to allow me to exclusively share Elissa’s amazing birth story here with my readers.

Very often, while I am with my birth parents during the labouring process, the question comes up (and I should add it to my FAQ’s soon since it really is one of the most frequently asked questions of all time!) regarding the longest labour I’ve ever witnessed. Well, the long-standing record was just beaten by the arrival of little Elissa…

Elrissa’s contractions started on a Sunday evening. By Monday, she was admitted to the Labour Ward and the Waiting Game started in earnest for the excited parents. Knowing that a new mommy’s labour can either be slow or super fast, I decided it would be best to take the scenic drive over the mountain to Worcester to be nearer to the hospital, in case it would be the latter.

But, Monday came and went, and to our great surprise, so did Tuesday!

Although the labour progressed, baby was clearly not ready to make her appearance! After a whopping 48 hours of labour, the doctor made the call to go into theatre for an emergency c-section.

And so, a two-day labour drew to an end for the exhausted parents. Finally, they were wheeled into theatre to meet their little girl!

Unfortunately, I was not allowed into the theatre, BUT the story of how this longed-for little girl made her grand entrance is absolutely magical in its own right! It was certainly an unforgettable experience, and one for the record books!

Welcome to the world, sweet Elissa!
