The chronicles continue: 10 months later | Andreas

Imagine being a fly on the wall during one of the most intimate moments of someone’s life. As a birth photographer, I get to do that. Even better, I often then walk a journey with my dearest clients - I document newborn and one-year-later sessions, birthdays, annual family photos, the arrival of baby number two, three, four and even five! I watch as families grow, always creating heirlooms that represent the fleeting moment of their Now.

Lucky, lucky me.

I was equally lucky to play a part in a very special documentation of one of Marysol Blomerus’ most cherished and long-standing clients, after taking over her business in 2019.

Marysol not only the documented Lyndi and Willem’s maternity session when expecting their first born, but also baby Emma’s newborn session, as well as an in-home photo session every two months until she turned one. These photos are nothing short of fabulous…!

Naturally, when baby two was on the way, the couple wanted to carry on the tradition. I was only too glad to be a part of this extraordinary documentation, and during our business handover, Marysol and I went to great lengths to ensure the transition between photographers would be as seamless as possible for the family.

Of course, then Covid-19 through us a massive curveball! Marysol and her family were forced to leave South Africa much sooner than previously planned… Here is what she had to say:

When I had to leave so suddenly, Lyndi and Willem were one of the first clients I thought of. We were right in the middle of chronicling her son's first year every 2 months with an heirloom album that was to mirror one his older sister had. We were planning to have Kristen shadow our next session. Covid might have taken so much, but thanks to Kristen's professionalism and willingness to roll up her sleeves, not all was lost. I was able to brief her fully over video, walking her through what I knew was most important to Lyndi and the final product. Kristen took it from there. I'm so thrilled my one of my dearest clients was in good hands!

Thankfully, the tradition will now continue, hopefully without any more world-wide pandemics complicating things!

Take a look at a little selection of this family’s amazing journey, beautifully chronicled by Marysol, finishing off with their latest session captured by myself. Andreas is now ten months new. He and big sis Emma are a wonderfully warm, joyous mirror of their lovely parents…

Did I mention how lucky I am to be a fly on the wall?
